Word of advice...avoid these solicitors like the plague. At the face of it, their quote appears competitive which is why we instructed them to handle our first house purchase. We were new to the process and like any other service provider, contractor etc. we took the quote as gospel. As our house purchase advanced, they snuck in hidden charges throughout our paperwork, as I'm sure is their usual code of practice which we were unaware of. When we questioned the final bill which had doubled, we were told if we do not pay then we cannot exchange/complete on our house purchase. We purchased a freehold property, had nothing to sell & required a mortgage - the whole process took around 6 weeks as it should yet the fees charged were around £3,000, original quote was around £1,400! Would not recommend using this firm unless you have money to burn.

We purchased our first house through MW Solicitors which went through without incident. That's the good news. Upon completion we were charged over a thousand pounds more than quoted (£1400) for our conveyancing fees which was very confusing as on the face of it the sale which involved us as FTB's and no onward chain happened without incident. We were then told about a number of additional fees and charges which were not included on our original quotation: The sum of £195.00 + VAT has been added in respect of your gifted deposit. o The sum of £150.00 + VAT has been added in respect of acting for your mortgage lender. o The sum of £95.00 + VAT has been added in respect of our charges in preparing and completing the Stamp Duty Land Tax. o The sum of £35.00 + VAT has been added as this is our standard fee in respect of pre-completion searches including bankruptcy and land registry searches. o As per the estimate, the Financial Transaction Fees are charged at a maximum of £45.00 + VAT for each transfer out Etc. Etc. McMillan Williams sent a lot of paperwork some of which would have been long winded explanations of increased and additional fees but when you are in the midst of moving, having a job and life/work pressures - who has the time to go through countless additional letters as well as the contracts and everything else. We didn't, we trusted our instructed solicitor (more fool us.) especially as we had a quotation in writing. All of the above should have been included on the original quotation so we could have found the best solicitor at the best price but the reality is you have to pay once you are about to complete (get out the credit cards). Instead we have been left feeling misled... and skint. I would not recommend or use MW Solicitors again. We would only use fixed fee solicitor moving forward and have learnt a big lesson.

We had an absolutely brilliant experience with MW Solicitors in Worthing, with the wonderful Lindsay handling everything for both the sale of our old property, and purchase of our new one. We had a lot of hurdles to get through on both accounts but Lindsay was helpful, patient and supportive throughout, happy to answer any question we might have - no matter how obvious the answer might have been! When she told us she was on annual leave on both our completion dates, we weren't concerned in the slightest - Laura and Michelle stepped in and kept us regularly informed and up-to-date. The whole firm have been brilliant but special thanks do go to Lindsay - who I have already recommended to a friend!

After sharing a poor review for the mis-leading and underhand service we received from MMW solicitors someone from the company contacted me and asked to investigate the matter which is agreed too. I shared the original quotation we given (£1400) and the E-Mail we received the day before completion asking for a further £1300. It's now been over a month and a half since we had that conversation - I have chased a couple of times for an update to be fobbed off and told the matter is still under investigation. I was hopeful they would do the right thing by responding to us in a timely fashion and would refund us the money they demanded a day before we completed, that wasn't included on a written quotation prior to instructing them. We would have happily removed our poor review but at this stage everything is dragging on, there is 0 communication and we just want to be done with the whole saga. Further update on this: We have now heard back from MMW solicitors who have said they wrote correspondence to notify us of fee increases, some of which we were aware of but our frustration has come from A) the increases not being notified clearly on the correspondence they sent us and were threaded in with other important things related to our house purchase B) MMW are out of touch with the real world if they think normal people have hours in their evenings and weekends to go through all of their correspondence and tally up the amount of increased charges when they have already issued a formal quotation C) Do not provide a transparent quotation at the outset - all of our increased charges were standard processes in purchasing a house they clearly left out to win business and then added additional things in throughout the legal process in long winded letters which almost doubled our fees.

Would definitely recommend MWSL if you’re moving house. Our solicitor James worked efficiently and very thoroughly so ensure a painless purchase! He explained every stage of the process to us so we understood every step which was valuable to us as first time buyers. From offer to completion in 4 and a half weeks - we’re thrilled! Thank you.
